Mouse is a type of input device which is used to
point something on the screen, that is why mouse is also known as pointing
device. The mouse can be wired or wireless. If the mouse is wired, then it is
directly connected with CPU. It has three parts – Right button, Left button and
wheel at the center. Right button is used to open any drop down menu. Left
button is used to select any item and twice clicking on left button is used to
open any item. Wheel at the center is used to scroll up and down of any page. At
the lower part of the mouse there is a laser sensor light, which helps to move the
mouse pointer.
Keyboard
Keyboard is also an input device which is used to type something on the
computer. It is looks like a type writer. Mainly we send instructions in the
form of commands or text using keyboard. It can also be wired or wireless. A
keyboard contains the following types of keys –
Keyboard
Alphabet Keys – (A to Z or a to z)
Numlock / Numbers keys – 0 to 9
Space bar
Arrow keys – Left Arrow, Right Arrow, Up Arrow, Down Arrow
Special Keys – Enter, Ctrl, Alt, Windows, Delete, Backspace, etc.
Functional Keys – F1 to F12
Monitor
Monitor is an output device which is used to display the output in the
form of video, text or graphics. The monitor looks very like our TV set, but
their internal technology is different. Monitor uses video card to display the video
on the monitor. The output on the monitor is called soft copy. There are 3 types of Monitors present:
CRT Monitor
CRT Monitor:CRT stands for Cathode Ray Tube. They are the conventional
monitors, which are large in size and having wide viewing angles. Its working process
is very simple. There is a tube coated with phosphorous in inner surface. When
electrons produced by e-gun come in contact with phosphorous wall, light is
produced by virtue of which we can see.
LED Monitor
LCD Monitor: LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. It is a thin, flat
display screen made up of any number colour or monochrome pixels arrayed in
front of light source or reflector. LCD monitors are unable to display black
and white image.
LED Monitor: LED stands for Light Emitting
Diode. It is the advanced form of CRT monitor. A cold cathode ray, the fluorescent
panel are two major components of the LCD. The cold cathode ray technology is
used in LCD which emits electrons and light up the fluorescent coated monitor
screen. The process is known as back lighting. The second component is a fluorescent
panel, which is made of liquid crystal.
Printer
Printer is another type of output device which is used to print
something which is seen on the computer and then transfer that displayed
information to paper. The output on a printed paper is called hard copy. Different types of printers are:
Impact printer
An impact printer makes contact with paper. It usually
forms the print image by pressing an inked ribbon against the paper using a
hammer or pins. Due to they use hammer, so noise arises during printing. Following
are some examples of impact printers:
Non-impact Printer
Dot-Matrix printers: The dot-matrix printer uses print heads containing
9 to 24 pins. This is very low quality printer that is why they are very
inexpensive. There printing speed is 100-600 cps (character per second).
Line printers: Line printers use special mechanism that can print a
whole line at once; they can typically print the range of 1200 to 6000 lines
per minute. They are also low quality printer and cost is very low.
Non-impact printer
Impact Printer
Non-impact printers do not use hammer, so they are quieter.
They always produce high quality printout. Following are some types of
non-impact printer:
Ink-jet printer: Ink-jet printer uses little dots for image and
characters. The dots are formed by tiny droplets of ink. They are relatively
high quality printer than both types of impact printers and costly.
Laser printer: A laser printer works like a photocopy machine. It
produces high quality printout. Instead of droplet ink, they use ink powder for
printing. They are very costly. Mainly they are used in photo lab or photo
studio.
Scanner
Scanner
Scanner is an input device. It copies or captures any pictures or text
in digital form and store into computer. The two main types of scanner are:
flatbed and portable scanner. A flatbed scanner is the most common type of
scanner, and it is designed to scan flat objects. A portable scanner is
designed for travel purposes.
USB Flash Drive
OTG flash drive
USB flash drive
USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. A USB flash drive is a device used
for data storage that includes a flash memory and in integrated USB interface.
Most of the USB flash drives are removable and re-writable. Physically they are
small in size and easy to carry. Newer technology of USB flash drive is OTG
(on-the-go) flash drive. It is equipped with a standard USB connector on one
end, and a micro –USB connector on the other end. Currently, OTG technology is
compatible with the Android OS.
