Mini Computer
Mini
computers are also small general purpose system. They are generally more
powerful and most useful as compared to micro computer. It is a type of
computer that possesses most of the features and capabilities of a large
computer, but is smaller in physical size. Minicomputers emerged in the
mid-1986s and were first developed by IBM Corporation (Nick name "Big Blue").

Application of Mini computer:
- Primarily used by sub-departments of companies to offload the company mainframe’s work.
- An inventory department might use a mini to provide better control of stock and to make predictions about future needs.
- These are used by small business and firms.
- It can be provided to multiple users.
- It is lower in cost as compared to Mainframe computer.
- It is small in size and portability as compared to Mainframe computer.
Disadvantages:
- Their performance is lower than Mainframe computer.
- It is difficult to upgrade.
- These are lower to Mainframe computers in terms of speed and storage capacity.
